Comprehensive Health Education

Comprehensive Health Education is required instruction under Florida Statute 1003.42. The Putnam County School District provides age-appropriate instruction designed to support students’ physical, mental, emotional, and social well-being.

Putnam County School District recognizes that parents and guardians are the primary educators of their children, particularly regarding topics of reproductive health. We are committed to partnering with families by providing transparent access to instructional materials.

In accordance with Florida law and Putnam County School District Policy 2417, parents/guardians have the right to opt their child out of any portion of comprehensive health education that includes:

  • Reproductive health, or any disease, including human immunodeficiency virus (HIV)/acquired immunodeficiency syndrome (AIDS), its symptoms, development, and treatment.

A student so exempted may not be penalized by reason of that exemption and shall be given alternative assignments during this time.
