RECOGNIZING FLORIDA'S BEST PRINCIPALS

RECOGNIZING FLORIDA'S BEST PRINCIPALS

Bryan Helms, Interlachen High School’s Principal, has been selected for the 2021 Principal Leadership Awards. He was one of only three high school principals selected throughout the state for the award. Florida TaxWatch established the Principal Leadership Awards program in 2014 to identify Florida’s most effective principals in high-risk K-12 public schools, recognize and reward their work, and promote their transformational practices throughout the state. Florida TaxWatch says, “This unique initiative identifies principals around the state who have had the greatest impact on their students, in parts of the state where educational success can transform a community. The program analyzes student performance data over several consecutive years, and the results are weighted to find those principals making a difference in communities that need the attention the most. While Florida can easily point to its highest-performing schools in affluent communities, the principals recognized through this program are those that may otherwise go unnoticed by a statewide audience, but their impact is far greater.”

Helms is truly making a difference at Interlachen High School, in the community, and the education of Florida’s next generation.

The Florida Prepaid College Foundation established the Academic A+ Challenge Match Scholarship Program to recognize students who are making exemplary efforts in their classrooms and communities while overcoming significant challenges in their life. The Program was originally developed in partnership with the Florida TaxWatch Outstanding Principals’ Leadership Program, and initially SunTrust Bank.Today, Reva Godbolt was awarded the Foundation’s Academic A+ Challenge Match Scholarship which will cover two years of her education.

Florida Prepaid College Foundation Director Cindy O’Connell said, “Every day, the work of these dedicated Principals dictate which opportunities for success will be available to our children and how their educational experience will mold them into a future leader and productive member of our society. The Florida Prepaid College Foundation is proud to support the Principal Leadership Awards with the Foundation’s Academic A+ Challenge Match Scholarship Program.  We look forward to helping these nine students realize their potential, and we thank Florida TaxWatch for its commitment to highlighting the good works of these public servants and unyielding dedication to education in Florida.”
