Each year, from September 15 through October 15, communities across the nation celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month, recognizing the history, culture, traditions and contributions of Hispanic Americans and the many ways Hispanic heritage has helped shape our communities, our state and our nation.
At the Putnam County School District, we are proud to recognize and celebrate the diverse cultures and experiences that make up our school community.
A Districtwide Celebration
Later this month, PCSD will bring Hispanic Heritage Month to life through a special districtwide in-school celebration. The event will be hosted for students on one of our campuses and shared virtually with classrooms throughout the district, giving students across PCSD an opportunity to participate and celebrate together.

An Opportunity for Students to Share Their Creativity
Hispanic Heritage Month also provides students with an opportunity to learn, create and share through the 2026 Florida Hispanic Heritage Month Art and Essay Contests, sponsored by the Florida Department of Education and Volunteer Florida.
This year's theme is: “Celebrating Florida’s Hispanic Heritage”
Student Art Contest — Grades K–3
Students in kindergarten through third grade may submit one original, two-dimensional artwork inspired by this year's theme. Four statewide winners will be selected, with each winner receiving a $200 gift card for school supplies.
Student Essay Contest — Grades 4–12
Students in grades 4–12 may submit an original essay of no more than 500 words. Six statewide winners will be selected across elementary, middle and high school categories. Each winner will receive a two-year Florida College Plan scholarship and a $200 gift card for school supplies.
Excellence in Education Award
Students, parents, teachers and principals may also nominate a full-time Florida educator for the Hispanic Heritage Month Excellence in Education Award. Four educators will be selected to receive $2,500.
