Putnam County School District (PCSD) continues to strengthen its commitment to providing safe, secure and supportive learning environments for every student.
This week, PCSD Director of School Safety Travis Weaver attended Florida’s Second Annual National Summit on School Safety, hosted by the Florida Department of Education and the Florida Education Foundation. The three-day event brought together school district representatives, education leaders, law enforcement officers, policymakers and school safety specialists from across Florida and 19 other states to collaborate, learn and share best practices.
The Summit focused on Florida’s nationally recognized model for school safety, including emergency preparedness, threat assessment, school security, behavioral health supports and strengthening partnerships between schools and law enforcement.
“School safety is not something we ever consider finished,” said Travis Weaver, Director of School Safety for Putnam County School District. “Events like this give us the opportunity to learn from experts across the country, strengthen our own practices and ensure we are doing everything possible to protect our students and staff.”
Throughout the Summit, attendees participated in sessions covering emerging school safety challenges, emergency management partnerships and strategies for identifying and preventing potential threats. The event also featured presentations from national experts and a student-led panel focused on the importance of keeping student voices at the center of school safety efforts.
For PCSD, participation in the Summit reflects an ongoing commitment to proactive planning, training and collaboration.
PCSD continues to prioritize:
Strong partnerships with the Putnam County Sheriff’s Office and local emergency responders
Ongoing safety training and emergency drills for staff and students
Comprehensive school safety plans at every campus
Behavioral threat assessment and mental health support systems
Safe School Officers and security measures across the district
“Nothing is more important than the safety of our students and staf,” said Superintendent Rick Surrency. “We are proud of the work Mr. Weaver and our school safety team do every day, and we remain committed to learning, improving and leading in ways that keep our schools safe.”
As PCSD continues to shape the future, district leaders remain focused on creating schools where students can learn, grow and succeed with confidence.
