Public Schools

National Public Schools Week, celebrated February 23–27, 2026, is a time to recognize the incredible work happening every day in classrooms across the Putnam County School District and throughout Florida. Public schools remain the clear choice for Florida families, with 85% of parents choosing Florida public schools and public charter schools to educate their children — a milestone worth celebrating.

Today, a high school diploma from a Florida public school is more than a milestone — it is a launchpad for success. Public schools offer choice, flexibility, and personalized pathways that prepare students for college, careers, and life. Through engaging instruction, meaningful relationships, and real-world opportunities, students in Putnam County are discovering their strengths, pursuing their goals, and building bright futures.

In Putnam County School District, that success comes to life every day through programs and opportunities that include:

  • Acceleration options such as Advanced Placement, Cambridge, and dual enrollment opportunities

  • Career and Technical Education (CTE) programs aligned to local workforce needs in fields such as healthcare, construction, manufacturing, agriculture, and public safety

  • A wide range of extracurricular activities that foster leadership, teamwork, creativity, and school pride

  • Comprehensive student support services, including mental health resources, academic intervention, and family engagement initiatives

  • Strong partnerships with local businesses, St. Johns River State College, community organizations, and industry leaders that expand opportunities and strengthen our local economy

Florida school districts continue to meet and exceed high academic standards. The recent announcement of a historic, record-breaking 92.2% graduation rate for Florida public schools for the 2024–25 school year highlights the impact public education is making across our state.

“As we celebrate National Public Schools Week, we are proud of the dedicated educators, staff, families, and community partners who work together each day to support our students,” said Superintendent Rick Surrency. “In Putnam County, we are committed to preparing every student for success and strengthening our community through education.”

Together, Putnam County School District and Florida’s public schools are building strong communities, developing a skilled workforce, and creating brighter futures for all — because Florida’s future truly is Powered by Public Schools.
