The Putnam County School District came together for an evening of celebration and gratitude at the 2026 PCSD Employee of the Year Gala, honoring the educators and support professionals whose dedication and leadership make a lasting impact across the district.
Held as one of PCSD’s most meaningful annual traditions, the gala recognizes employees who exemplify excellence, commitment, and service to students, families, and the community. From classrooms and campuses to departments that support daily operations, this year’s honorees represent the heart of PCSD.
The evening opened with a warm welcome from Tonya Whitehurst, Assistant Superintendent of Business Operations, followed by the Pledge of Allegiance and an invocation led by School Board Member Sandra Gilyard. Guests were reminded that while roles may differ, every individual in the room plays a vital part in supporting student success.
Superintendent Dr. Rick Surrency shared words of appreciation as he reflected on the dedication of PCSD employees and introduced the district’s 2025 Teacher of the Year, recognizing the ongoing impact of outstanding educators. Attendees were further inspired by Arielle Driggers, who offered words of encouragement while introducing the 2026 Florida Teacher of the Year, Mark Harrison, the evening’s keynote speaker. Harrison’s message reinforced the power of educators and support staff working together to shape the future of public education. His message to "be the difference" left a memorable impact that PCSD Educators and staff will not soon forget.
Throughout the program, a video produced by the PCSD Communications Team highlighted this year’s nominees, sharing moments and stories that showcased their commitment to students and schools.
This year’s nominees included Mechele Higginbotham as Principal of the Year and Belinda Taylor as Assistant Principal of the Year.
