Truancy

The Putnam County School District follows the Florida Statute which states: Florida Statute 1003.27(7)(a) describes that parents who fail to have their child attend school commits a misdemeanor of the second degree. These penalties may be to pay a $500 fine and/or a term of imprisonment for 60 days. In addition, (7)(d) describes that the parent may be ordered to pay $2.00 for each school day missed, perform up to 25 community service hours at school, and or participate in counseling services.

The Putnam County School District also has a Civil Petition that may be filed for first time offenders to try and assist the family with ongoing attendance issues before attendance because a Criminal Offense.
