Gifted Services

Gifted students are those children and young adults whose abilities and potential for accomplishment are exceptional and for whom differentiated educational programs are necessary for development. These students possess the capabilities for outstanding performance in various future pursuits, and they need to acquire the skills of critical thinking, problem solving, leadership, self-awareness, and decision making.  Gifted students are “Children and youth with outstanding talent who perform or show the potential for performing at remarkably high levels of accomplishment when compared with others of their age, experience, or environment.”- US Department of Education, 1993.  In Florida, children who are gifted are included under Exceptional students because of their special learning needs.  The purpose of exceptional student education (ESE) is to help each child with an exceptionality to progress in public school and prepare for life after school.

Gifted Education is defined by State Board Education Rule 6A-6.03019 as one who has superior intellectual development and is capable of high performance.
