PCSD Volunteers: Making a Difference Every Day

We are thrilled to welcome parents, guardians, and community members to our volunteer team! Your time, talents, and support play an essential role in enriching student learning and strengthening our schools.

Whether you’re reading with students, assisting at events, mentoring, or sharing a special skill — your involvement helps shape the future of Putnam County.

Who Can Volunteer?

A volunteer is any non-paid individual approved by the School District to assist staff and students. Volunteers may include:

  • Parents and guardians

  • Senior citizens

  • Students (high school or college)

  • Community members with special skills or time to give

Volunteers may:

  • Provide one-on-one or small-group support to students

  • Assist with school events and activities

  • Support teachers by preparing materials or displays

  • Serve as chaperones for field trips and school-sponsored events

Volunteer Qualifications & Responsibilities

Volunteers should:

  • Have a genuine interest in students and a cooperative attitude

  • Maintain confidentiality regarding student information

  • Sign in at the front office and wear an ID badge while on campus

  • Avoid personal business, cell phone use, and bringing children while volunteering

  • Follow school rules, emergency procedures, and staff directions

Steps to Become a Volunteer

  1. Get School Approval

    • Before beginning the application process, you must receive approval from the school principal or designated administrator.

  2. Complete the Online Volunteer Application

    • Once approved, you will receive a link or QR code to the online application. You will need to:

      • Provide a valid photo ID

      • Consent to a check against the Florida Department of Law Enforcement (FDLE) sexual predator/offender registry

  3. Understand Volunteer Levels

    • Supervised Volunteer – Always works under direct staff supervision; no fingerprinting required

    • Unsupervised Volunteer – May work with students out of sight or hearing of staff; Level 2 background check required (fingerprinting)

    • Note: All chaperones for school-sponsored trips (day or overnight) must complete a Level 2 background check.

  4. Background Check & Cost

    • Background check cost is paid by the volunteer

    • Screening is valid for 5 years

    • After 60 volunteer hours or 10 school events, you may request reimbursement

      • You must actively volunteer; attendance alone does not count
