TAKE STOCK IN CHILDREN SENIOR RECOGNITION 2025
Putnam County's Take Stock in Children program is excited to announce that TWENTY-ONE Putnam County School District seniors successfully completed our program and were honored at an event on April 18th at the Putnam County Fairgrounds. These Take Stock In Children scholars earned their scholarships by meeting regularly with a volunteer mentor, completing professional college coaching sessions, and participating in college readiness events. At the event, each student received a Take Stock In Children medallion to wear at graduation but most importantly they each received a 60-credit hour college rate tuition scholarship from the Florida PrePaid Foundation that covers the cost of tuition at a Florida college or technical school. Our seniors plan to attend the following post-secondary institutions: St. John's River State College, Daytona State College, Santa Fe College, University of North Florida, Valdosta State University, University of Florida, Beck Automotive Apprenticeships, and the United States Army. Take Stock in Children is proud to be able to provide these deserving students with a guaranteed pathway to post-secondary education! We would like to thank, Nathan Collins, Katrina Feola, Randy Hedstrom, Pamela Brown, Latina Hardy, Susannah Bender, Amanda Lamb, John Weeks, Michelle Mikel, Rebecca Motes, Wendy Letterman, Kristen Stout, and Yvette Jones for mentoring these students.

Melanie Rojas represents PJSHS at Clay Electric Youth Tour-
The Clay Electric Youth Tour Contest awards four high school juniors an all-expense paid trip to Washington D.C, in June. A contestant would be a high school junior chosen out of the whole school to participate in the competition. This year, I was able to have the honor of being selected as Palatka High's contestant. Twenty-six high schools would travel all-expenses paid to Tallahassee to compete for the trip to Washington, for the competition we would have to write a speech about what moment in American history we would want to be a part of, and take a written quiz about Clay Electrics History.
While in Tallahassee, we would also take trips to see monuments, museums, and legislative buildings. The monuments that we visited were so interesting, like the old state capitol building for example. I learned so much about the capitol's history and saw how much they had changed the state capitol from the one we used so many years ago. In a museum, we went into an auditorium and saw many different things like science experiments, and an educational film on endangered baby animals.
On the trip, I was able to meet so many great people and got to build friendships with the other students there as well. It was a lot of fun in Tallahassee and a great opportunity to learn about the government along with Clay Electric's role as cooperatives. It's truly one of those once in a lifetime opportunities.
